Stefan Stiller ***

Stefan Stiller is a renowned German chef and restaurateur, best known as the chef-owner of Taian Table, a three-Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant in Shanghai, China. Additionally, he serves as the president of Bocuse d’Or Team China and Asia Pacific, further establishing his influence in the culinary world.

 

Career Overview

Stiller’s culinary journey began in 1983 with a 2.5-year apprenticeship at Restaurant Endtenfang in Celle, Germany. After this, he staged at Restaurant Goldener Pflug in Cologne, which was the second restaurant in Germany to earn three Michelin stars. Following his mandatory army service, he worked at the 2-Michelin-starred Schweizer Stuben before returning to Celle in 1989 to take ownership of Restaurant l’Auberge.

Stiller’s career continued to rise, leading him to become chef de cuisine at the 1-Michelin-starred Restaurant Schwarzer Hahn in Deidesheim in 1998. A year later, he opened his own fine dining establishment, Restaurant Grand Cru, which earned a Michelin star.

 

In 2004, Stiller relocated to Shanghai, becoming executive chef at Club Shanghai and later at Mimosa Supperclub. His ventures in China expanded with Stiller’s Restaurant and Cooking School, where he offered cooking lessons to the public. He also became a partner in La Cocotte Restaurant in Hangzhou in 2012 and launched EAST Eatery in Shanghai in 2015.

 

Taian Table
In 2016, Stiller founded Taian Table in Shanghai, which received one Michelin star just five months after its opening. By 2021, it had earned three Michelin stars. Stiller also opened a branch of Taian Table in Guangzhou, which received two Michelin stars in its first year. His influence on the culinary scene continues to grow, earning accolades from prestigious organizations like “Les Grandes Tables du Monde.”
